Question I am 37 I have had 2 surgical biopsies one in the right breast that was atypical cells one in the left breast that was fibrodenoma. In Nov. I found a BB size hard lump in my left breast-there has been no change in it. I went to my specialist and saw nothing on mamogram. or sonogram. but could feel it. This was the case with my previous lumps also. They said it was like a pencil point and they saw a cyst close to it. They said it was only a low percentage that it was cancer and that we would watch it and see in 4 months. I asked about a MRI due to having small, dense breast and they said no. I went to my family doctor this week about pain and swelling under my arm on the left side, this has been on going for 1 month,. He said its a infected lymph node. He seemed concerned because of the lump and my past. He put me on 2 different antibiotics but its been 5 days and the swelling and pain is still there.Ive tried to call another breast specialist as my family MD has suggested but most do not want to see someone elses high risk patient??? what should I do? and should I be concerned?
Answer I do not understand why there was a no to your suggestion of an MRI scan. Since you have dense breasts you should always have MRI scans together with your mammograms and ultrasound scans. To KNOW what this is I strongly suggest either a needle biopsy guided by touch or a surgical biopsy. If no one there where you are is very experienced with needle biopsies it has to be a surgical biopsy. Good luck!
