Breast Cancer/MRI

Question
I had an MRI of my breast 5 days ago, instead of my annual mamo, because I had implants jan, 10, and have had some pain in right side of right breast, and also did not wnat unwanted radiation and I have dense breasts which makes the mamos hard to read i am told. All previous mamos as well as songram done 00/09 norma and thermography 06/10 normal.  This week MRI showed ath the right breast 10:00 axis 4.3 cm from the nipple, there is a 2.3 cm region of clumped nodular enhancement. This enhancement demosnstrtes rapid intitial uptake 354% with plateau kinetics. They wanted me to do a follow up mamo and sonogram which i did today and was normal, they could not see anything. They are recommending biopsy. I am concerned about the risks of biopsy. I am very cystic by nature. Do you think it could by fibro cystic changes? I am scared, and confused. Should i be very concerned about the rapid initial uptake, is this an indication of cancer, can fibro cysts have this as well. I greatly appreciate your opinion.
Thank you,
Lisa

Answer
A biopsy is the BEST way of KNOWING what this is! It can probably in your case be done as an MRI guided needle biopsy which should be simple and easy for you with no real surgery involved. It may be a cancerous lesion or fibrocystic changes but without a biopsy we do not KNOW! Good luck!
