Question
Hello Doctor,
I think I have asked you a question before. Yesterday I saw a breast cancer specialist at the advice of my cosmetic surgeon. In Nov 2011, I had a breast reduction/mastopexy to correct an asymmetry I developed after breast feeding. The pathology report only had a gross description: "multiple pieces of yellow tan tissue; multiple pieces of irregular shaped tissue". Diagnosis: benign breast tissue with fibrocystic changes and calcifications. There was no mention of atypical cells or hyperplasia, but I am not sure if a microscopic examination was ever done. The breast cancer specialist was not concerned although she did not have the path report to see. She told me to go see her again in 6 mos, at which time I may be able to have a mammogram without the possibility of false positives.
I guess I am a little worried because if there was nothing to worry about, why would I be referred to a breast cancer specialist.

Answer
Because those are the best to do breast check ups! So your plastic surgeon did the best possible for you! I have no objection to what your specialist said or did. Good luck!
