Question
Hello
I was diagnosed with breast cancer. What do you think makes more sense? If I have chemotherapy first or remove the tumor by masectomy. It is too large for a lumpectomy.

thanks in advance

Answer
In order to answer (well) I have to know how big your tumour is and exactly where it is located. You can shrink breast cancers both with chemo therapy and with radiation therapy if they are too big for surgery to begin with. in most cases however where the tumour is NOT too big to begin with - but too big for lumpectomy - a mastectomy is done followed up with radiation and chemo (and maybe (anti) hormonal therapy). Also in lumpectomies the same scheme is followed usually.
So there the lumpectomy is followed by radiation and chemo etc.
