Breast Cancer/Calcium deposits

Question
I have been told that I have levels of calcium in my left breast and was also told these were benign and haven't changed since my last scan in 2004, should I be concerned, as I lost my mum to breast cancer at the age of 47.

Answer
You can have benign (not cancer associated) calcifications in your breast. If there has been no change in them there is probably nothing to worry about. BUT with your family history you should have your mammography check ups at least once a year and they should be complemented with ultrasound & MRI breast scans and if anything unclear or suspicious is seen needle or surgical biopsies should be done!
