Breast Cancer/Mammo followed by ultrasound

Question
Hi. I am 40 years old, have no children and my paternal grandmother died of breast cancer. I had a mammo on 7/16/04 that was compared to one I had on 10/20/03. The report said "a 2cm nodule is suspected in the outer portion of the left breast, probably in the upper outer quadrant." I had an ultrasound today and on the screen I saw 2 dark circles, almost looked like a picture of a fetus on ultrasound. The tech asked me if I felt the lump and I explained that I have "lumpy" breasts, but I could not feel the lump. She said that one was almost behind my nipple and she said there were 2 others. She said my doctor would have the report in 3 days. My question is if the lumps are black on ultrasound and pretty oval and round are they usually cysts or tumors? Thank you for your help and time.
Sincerely,
Tammy Fontana

Answer
Sorry, that description is not enough to make it possible to judge the finding. I would have to SEE it myself. BUT there is a much bettere and surer way to find out what your lesion(s) are/is. Ask your doctor to have a thin needle biopsy of what is seen - it can even be done stereotactically if the lump(s) can not be felt. That way you would get a pathology report of what this is! Good luck!
