Question
Recently found on my mammo was a cluster of microcalcification close to the chest was that was rated as ACR4. I had a stereotactic biopsy that did not show malignancy but did show a papilloma and mastitis. Being so close to the chest wall why would a papilloma be that deep in the breast.  Also, I am 48 years old how would I have mastitis and the Dr. said it doesn't necessarally mean I have an infection, so what would it mean.

Answer
The papilloma is in a milk duct, not uncommon at all. Mastitis means an inflammation in breast tissues. There are other reasons for inflammation than infection. Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammation of joints but there is no infection there. If you get a sprained ankle you get an inflammation there due to the mechanical trauma you have suffered, but there is no infection. Non infective mastitis is not that uncommon either. Men can have a prostatitis without an infection too.
It has no connection to breast cancer!
