Breast Cancer/White liquid from breast

Question
This is what my girlfriend told me. When she presses her right breast some white liquid comes out of the nipple and it doesnt seem to be milk as she says its kind of salty. She is just 18 and we were just concerned as to why is this happening. Its just with the right breast that this happens. She does have a problem with her periods, they r irregular sometimes. But this has never happened before. Its been happening for one day now. We were worried as to what could have been the cause to this.

Answer
This is in fact not that uncommon. As long as there is no blood in the fluid there is actually no cause for concern. She can take care of her worries even more if she so wishes - though it is not really necessary - by asking her dr. to send in a sample of the fluid for cytologigal (exfoliative cytology) examination where any presence of cancer cells is checked. The reason for her problem is probably a wart in one of her milk ducts (the one the fluid comes out of). That can be checked by galactography, a kind of mammography where x-ray contrast dye is injected into this milk duct and x-ray pictures are then taken of her breast.Again probably not necessary, just for your information.
