Breast Cancer/f/u tp breast lump

Question
I wrote a previous question about finding a lump in my left breast. My doc also felt it and sent me for a mammo and us. As my breasts are very dense, I suspect this area will not show up on the mammogram. Today I had the maamo and u/s. The tech doing the us could feel the area but on the us said it looked like an area of thickening in the breast that she really could not measure. She said this was benign and would not require further workup. Of course, I do not have the official radiologist report yet.
In your experience, what does thickening mean and does it require biopsy or closer watch?
I don't want an unnecessary biopsy but don't want to ignore something, either.
Thanks.

Answer
A thickening is another way of saying that you have a lump there, something you already knew. With dense breasts it is NOT enough to take mammograms and ultrasound scans. MRI breast scans should also be made! A surgical biopsy is probably not necessary but I would feel happier if you also had a benign result from a thin needle aspiration biopsy of your lump. Such a biopsy is very quick, easy & simple! Good luck!
