Question
hi, my mom has had breast cancer for 18 months.it has spread through her lymph, bones and into her liver.having survived her expectancy of a year post intense chemo and subsequent mastectomy she has now coming into her initial stage of liver failure and has been given 3/4 months life expectancy.treatment has stopped! is that the only way?
what can we expect in the forthcoming months? family has relocated from around the world and we feel in the dark! our oncologist is amazing but i still feel that i dont know enough or how to prepare for our fate.......
what is the medically stated process?
thanks x

Answer
Unfortunately it does - from your description - look like the end of the road. In liver failure the patient usually becomes unconcious somewhere along the road, so the end is usually not hard. How long it really will take is however impossible to tell with any certainty but we are probably talking months or even weeks here certainly not years. I'm sorry I have nothing better to tell you!
