Question I acquired mastitis 5 days ago and started antibiotics at that time (my baby is 3 weeks old). I am pumping exclusively. A few days ago, after pumping the affected breast, I noticed that what I was expelling was a very thick mucus like substance. It is solid and very bizarre. Is this normal? Should I be concerned? I am still expelling this matter out of my breast and it doesn't appear to be getting better.
Answer Hi Alicia,
can I ask why you are pumping exclusively, as frequent nursing will help treat the mastitis quicker.
I imagine that the substance is related to the mastitis, but will not harm your baby as anti bodies in your milk will protect the baby from any bacteria in your milk.
with the above info I may be able to help more with mastitis advice.
