Subject: How to stop feeding

Question
My wife doesn't go to work outside and still breastfeeds our 19 months old son.  Please tell us the ways to stop feeding now.

For the past one year, our son only drinks milk on her left breast for some reason.  Does this have any medical implication for my wife?

Answer
Hi Lenin,

Does your wife want to wean now, or are you just concerned as to how long she has been feeding? 19 months is perfectly usual.

The way to wean is to stop one feed at a time for at least a week before moving on to the next feed.

There are no problems with him using just one breast to nurse at all.

love

Mel xx
