Breastfeeding - crying while nursing

Expert: ruth kraft - 10/14/2009

Question
hey jennifer,
my 9 week old daughter has been crying during nursing sessions and seems to get really angry during those times (especially between 8pm and 10pm).We took her to her pediatrician as we were concerned about her being colicky but the doctor said that she was ok and that she was just an angry baby.I really do not understand the cause of her crying before taking the nipple or sometimes in between nursing.I would be grateful if you could help me.
sincerely
Dania

Answer
There is no way of really knowing what her issue could be, youll have to notice what is going on enviormentally. The things that came quickest to my mind are... is she overstimulated? that is a time she would likely be asleep. maybe watching her signals and trying to put her to sleep around 630 or 7. Maybe it is past her bed time. She also might need more quiet that time of night while she is trying to relax from the day as there is often alot of tention around parents at that time of night too. You can try gripe water from a health food store, mylicon sometimes help sooth and especially rescue remedy  ( also bought at nutrition stores like whole foods etc ) and see if that doesnt  help.

I hope that helps!
