Breastfeeding - sharp pains shooting through breasts

Question I have a four week old daughter and have been breastfeeding since birth . I do have saline breast implants and my breasts are very full and large. My nipples are still very sore and hot pink at the tip. I have read that this is a latch on problem but I make sure the baby has a good amount of breast in her mouth and I have to hold my breast for the entire feeding so that she doesn't slide off due to the fullness of my breast, but the soreness is not going away and my nipples are both bright pink. I have also noticed that I am getting sharp painful sensations that shoot through my breats several times a day and when feeding and I am wondering if this is normal ?? It is not the same feeling as the milk let down but a different sensation and very painful.
Answer Oh my.... it sounds to me like you have yeast. the yucky yeasties :( The hot pink and sore nipples, the pains through your breasts... oh yeast is horrible :( So, yeast is common, but not normal. esp. if you had antibiotics or are prone to yeast infections.
what to do?
Get acidopholous from the health food store, and mix it with breast milk and let air dry onyour nipples. take Some capsules also ( directions per container ) EVERY day.
eat less sugar. eliminate sugar as much as possible until this is truly under control cause it can get out of control fast and its hard to contain.
Let them air dry , and be in indirect sunlight as much of the day as you can.
you also have to treat the baby too. SO you can see your ob, or a lactation consultant to get an actual diagnosis . You can get different medications for you and the baby. You have to treat both of you at the same time or it will just keep passing between you too. Even after it seems like its gone, it may not be. so continue treatment for a week or so afterwards to make sure its really gone. introduce sugar slowly back into diet.
Boil, bras, use fresh nursing pads every few hours. yeast grows in warm ,dark, moist places much faster than in dry ones.
When seeing the lactation consultant, I would also ask to evaluate latch. just to make sure that isnt aggivating it. however, the bright red nipples and pain in the breast tissue not only the nipple are much different signs than latch issues.
Watch baby's diaper area. She may get patchy rash. put Breasmilk on her bottom to kill any bacteria, and let her bottom air dry. then cover with coconut oil/milk to help kill the yeast. Or whatever the dr gives you as a topical. Nystatin is the typical medication. it comes in an oral and topical medication.
start there, and let me know if you have more questions! and don't let it go any further... it can get bad crazy fast :(
