Breastfeeding - 4 month old making new sounds at breastfeeding

Expert: ruth kraft - 11/3/2009

Question
My 4 month old just started to make a loud noise while feeding/soothing himself at breast. it is a loud humming type of noise. If I take my breast away he gets frustrated and starts to cry- he now does this through the entire night! It is making it very hard for all to sleep. It started the night after he got his 4 month shots- don't know if it could be connected at all.

Answer
it sounds to me like he is just playing with his voice... he has learned he can control it some and figured out this odd sound to make so he does :)  He is right at the perfect time to be learning cause and effect... when I do THIS.... then THIS happens.... he will start all kinds of games testing his theory :)

I am not sure there is anything you can do to get him to stop. Just ignore it. You can't make him stop making sounds unfortunatly. Hopefully he will grow out of it.

I have never heard of it as a side effect of shots. As long as he is developmentally where he is suppose to be, then You shouldnt be too concerned :)
