Breastfeeding/Weaning to go on Vacation

Question
Hi Ruth,

I have a 14.5 month old  breastfed daughter. I love nursing and don't want to wean, but have a vacation planned for 11 nights 6 weeks away, and plan to leave the kids with grandparents. Is it necessary to wean her? Would it be more stressful for her to be weaned, and then left, or to just nurse her until we leave, and then resume? I am most worried that she will not cope well without being able to nurse for comfort.

Many thanks in advance!

Dawn

Answer
Hello :) Congrats on nursing so long! No it isnt needed to wean her, esp if you both want to continue on. So, my suggestion would be to take a hand pump with you because you could likely get uncomforatble as your breasts fill expecting to nurse. When you come back home you will likely be able to easily nurse again. I think she will be fine other than wo ndering where you are. Youll be welcome when you arrive back home likely to a nursing ready child :) They nurse alot for connection  so she will miss YOU more than nursing itself.

I hope that helped :)
