Breastfeeding/Breastfeeding and i got my period
Expert: ruth kraft - 2/3/2009
QuestionQUESTION: Hi,
I've been breast feeding my daughter for 8 months now and I just got my period. However I've had it for 3 weeks now. I've also had really bad cramps and it is sore to touch. I have called my OB/GYN twice and the nurses say i should be fine but if it gets heavier i should call back. I really think that there might be something wrong and i talked to a lactation consultant and she doesn't think its normal at all, especially with the pain.
I was wondering if this sounds like a normal period. I knew my first one would be long, but I have never had a period last for more than 7 days before i had my daughter.
Thanks,
Katryna
ANSWER: I would absolutely agree with your lactation consultant that it doesn't sound normal at all. esp with the pain and tenderness. I would call your drs office and make an appt. not ask them if its normal. make the appt. if they don't want to, find another ob. this type of bleeding is not normal esp with pain.
I hope its nothing!

QUESTION: After I sent the question I realized that the pain is near/around where my c-section incision is. Could this bleeding and pain be because something went wrong with my c-section?
I have made an appointment with my OB/GYN but it is in a week and a half because they were booked (I plan on calling back to see if they have cancellations)
AnswerAnything is possible and it certainly could be form an adhesion or something. But I am not a medical doctor. I would suggest to continue trying to get in sooner. If the pain gets worse, I would demand to be seen or find another doctor.
I hope it turns out well for you!
