Breastfeeding/Starting to pump 5 weeks after birth

QuestionMy baby is 5 weeks old now, has been projectile vomiting for 2 weeks the doctor thinks it is a formula issue they say that breast mild could be the best thing right now, I did not pump my breast after he was born, I tried pumping them today for the first time, How long will it take until I can produce a feeding for him?
AnswerAfter this period of time it is going to take alot of patience to build your supply back up. as it hasn't had the stimulation it has needed. to do this, my suggestion would be, get some mothers milk tea and drink a few glasses a day, if that doesn't work, get some fenugreek and try that. those both are herbal and help you raise your milk supply. it would be most beneficial for the first week to pump every two hours and watch how your milk supply builds. trying to nurse the baby as much as possible as well. practice makes perfect. if he wont latch and you want to pump and give bottles only, it is possible but will take more patience in getting the milk up as the baby is far more effective than the breast pump. I also think making sure you have a hospital grade pump would be best. if you get a smaller weaker pump it will take you much longer. at the very least an Ameda egnell purely yours or a medela pump in style.
You doctor is right, that the breastmilk will be far more beneficial and easier for the baby to digest. Keep it up and you'll see an amazing difference :)
