Breastfeeding/Switching to whole milk
Expert: ruth kraft - 2/22/2009
QuestionMy son is 10month old, have been breastfeeding him so far. And now I want to switch to an alternate .I tried feeding him formula which he entirely refused to have. So I have started to give him Whole milk (Fresh Milk) which he at first liked it very much. But he does not want to give away breastmilk, he cries to the core for breastfeed. He takes whole milk only at time not all the times.
Can you please help me get my son start on taking whole milk and getaway from Breast milk?
Thank you so much for taking time to solve my query.
Answerif your son will take breastmilk from a bottle, then give him that in a bottle, then add in parts of milk slowly so he can adapt to the taste. Breastmilk is flavored and developes taste buds in your baby's mouth. the formula tastes like cardboard to them. ( you taste it and see that it isn't that enjoyable ) and cows milk isn't all that great either so it doesn't suprise me that the baby doesn't want to switch. not to mention, at 10 months, its still might upset his stomach . at the very least cows milk isn't suppose to be given until 12 months of age. but I would imagine he just doesn't like it.
He also might be wanting the bonding he gets with you. So you have to wean him gently, one feeding at a time. delay the feedings at first. teach him in a respectful way that he needs to wait to nurse. and then as they get farther inbetween, it wont be so traumatic for him. Stopping nursing all together is going to be hard if its done all at once. too much change for him in a short time and he may view that as rejection.
I hope that helps!
