Breastfeeding/Spotting while breastfeeding.

Question
Hi, I have a 2 1/2 month old baby. I spotted very light pink, and a dark brown color about 2 or 3 weeks ago for a couple days on the tissue only. Than nothing happened for a while. Last night I had spotting again, and now nothing. I took a pregnancy test a week ago to be safe, and it was negative. I am not really sure what my body is doing. I also am very tired, have had some cramping with back aches, and my stomach has been upset off and on. I breastfeed for the most part, my baby sleeps through the night. My baby has formula about once every 2 days.

Answer
As soon as the you introduce any suppliment, formula or even a lot of pacifier use, the body interprets as weaning... slow weaning but none the less weaning. ALso because the baby sleeps all night , this also encourages ovulation. It sounds to me as if your body is trying to balance its hormones and get back into full blown cycles. how quickly this happens, depends on each persons hormones. So, unfortunatly there isnt anything that can really be done and no sure fire answer I can give you . that is just my best guess. Be careful with unprotected sex or you may end up with irish twins ( babies born very close )  if the symptoms concern you, call your ob and get checked to make sure there is nothing else going on .

good luck!
