Breastfeeding/Is my supply dropping???
Expert: ruth kraft - 8/6/2009
QuestionMy daughter is 2 months and 1 week old and we have been fairly successful with breastfeeding. It feels like my supply is on a roller coaster. When she was about a month old I 1 1/2 weeks where my supply felt low and my breasts were really soft and it took a while to feed her because she doesn't feed as quickly from a soft breast. I then thought all my problems were over because I was mildly engorged (breasts were hard and full before a feeding - she eats every 3-3 1/2 hours). That lasted until last Tuesday and now my breasts are soft again and we are going through the same thing. She is still having enough wet diapers everyday but her poo is green a lot of the time.
I want to know if my supply is drying up. She is not fussy between feedings but seems to have a little trouble sleeping(at least today). I am probably just freaking out for no reason but any assurance will help a lot. I've been getting more and more worried about this...
Would it do any harm to take fenugreek to up my supply just in case?
AnswerHello :) As long as she is having those wet and dirty diapers she is getting enough as you have heard... it is very normal after you get past a couple months of nursing to only feel a little fullness in the am, and then towards the evening it seems like the milk is gone. then after another couple months they will even be less full in the morning. But as long as you are feeding regularly and the baby is having those diapers and developmentally where they are suppose to be, then all is well and you don't need to worry. NO , taking fenugreek won't do any harm, you might notice a supply increase or might not. You can also try mothers milk tea and see if that helps you,if you get engorged or too full, don't take any more or slow it down :)
