Breastfeeding/Low milk suply and working

Question
I have a 7 month old daughter and am working full time.  I just started introducing food to her a month ago but she is still breastfeeding every 3 hours.  I pump at work 3 times a day and normally get about 4 ounce out of each pumping session but now I am only getting about an ounce out of each session.  Can I dry up even though my baby is still breastfeeding full time.  Is there anything I can do to keep my milk supply up.  My concern is that I will start to have to supplement with formula during the day because I will not have enough to give to the day care provider and I do not wish to do that.

Answer
Hello :) congrats on doing so well!  It is normal for many women for their milk during the day while working to decrease some for a few reasons. Usually work is stressful vs being at home with baby, the pump isnt NEARLY as efficient as the baby for getting milk out, and the age of the baby since solids were introduced often makes it a little less. However, if you are actually breastfeeding ( baby to nipple ) in the evening, then the baby will ALWAYS get enough. always. They are very efficient nursers :) esp at 7 months.

If you want to try to increase milk during the day, Try to get some metamucil and drink it 2 or 3 times a day. I know, sounds weird, however, it works the best and has the least amount of side effects. After that you can take mothers milk tea ( herbal tea) , fenugreek and sometimes blessed thistle will work. all herbs. You can ask the person at the counter at the nutritional store for detailed directions.

I hope that helped!
