Question
My lactation consultant says I'm getting a good latch but when i try to break it i can tell shes only got nipple, I'm ok for the first 5-10 minutes with the latching the consult says but I pay for it for the next 2 hours with my nipples hurting, not to the  point of crying or anything, just extremely tender. I've only been nursing 3 days, (i was pumping the first 4 days because my baby was in the NICU). How can i make sure shes getting a good latch and make sure shes getting more breast? I'm a 44H and saggy boobs are unfortunately helping to block what i can see her doing easily. Any advice on how to be sure shes going ok would be helpful. (she actiely feeds and gulps so i know shes getting milk for a good 20 minutes to 35 before she starts to just suck to suck and pass out which is when I detach her)

Answer
There could be a yeast issue if the latch is perfect. Or , see another lactation consultant. You can go to www.drjacknewman.com and watch his video clips about latch and see if it matches yours as well. that might help. Unfortunatly I cant tell you what to do to fix it without actually seeing you in person. I know someone who does over the net diagnosis if you have skype or a webcam if you want. but if you know another lactation consultant, get another in person opinion. Maybe the latch was good at first but now something needs to be tweaked.

I hope that at least sent you in the right direction! Sorry I couldnt help more!
