Breastfeeding/fat content in breastmilk

Question
Hello,
I was wondering if there was a way to determine if my breast milk contains enough fat.  I am currently nursing my 6-month-old, and her doctor told me she is in the 3rd percentile for weight, and I should supplement with formula.  I do not want to use formula, and deplete my milk supply, so I have added 2 more feedings to her day, and am feeding her avocados for more fat.  I feel like I am producing adequate milk, but wonder if the milk is fatty enough.  My other two children were also small at that age- maybe it just runs in the family.  Any ideas?
Thank you for your time,
Sara

Answer
Hello Sara,

I do not think you need to supplement with formula.  Your baby is already six months old and is past the stage where she is totally depending on your milk.  Now she can eat nearly everything and can get fats from elsewhere.  Avocados are amazing source of good fats, keep it up.  Your daughter can now have three meals per day, so this will definitely help her.
Also it is true that size is genetic.  As long as she is healthy, has wet and dirty nappies everyday, and her weight is not decreasing then there's nothing to worry about.
Good luck and keep me updated
