Question
Hello,

My wife was just prescribed some medication which won't allow her to feed our 6 month old over the next two weeks.  We are having problems in the first 8 hrs and don't know what to do.  Any suggestions on what to do would be welcome.

Thanks,
Kevin

Answer
Check the site www.safefetus.com and check out dr. hales breastfeeding and medications book to find out what the real issue is with the medication and see if there is another option that is more breastfeeding friendly.  I would start there first.

Other than that, at 6 months old the baby is missing the connection, closeness and is having a harder time digesting the food. You can give acidopholous to help with diegestion and helping baby get better gut reactions to the formula. Mom needs to continue pumping as much as possible to keep milk supply up .  Lots of love and connections in other ways as baby can feel rejected by not being allowed to nurse. So if possible an alternative medication would be preferable is possible.

I hope that helped!
