Breastfeeding/breast issues

Question
My baby of 4 days old, nursing has been going good, however I have on side that he will not nurse for the last 4 feedings.  The breast if very very full, I have tried to massage to release extra milk, but there is an overbundance.  He nurses on the other side, however is is very tender, and cannot be nursed on for every feeding.  I am determined to make this work, but I am at  loss as to get him to nurse on the one side.  The nipple is flat however the breast is engorged, and it appears he has trouble getting things to work.  Any suggetions?

Answer
Hello :) For the side that has an overabundant milk supply, hand express until you can forma nipple before you try to nurse him again. Then just keep offering that side until he takes it. If he continues, there could be an issue that is making him uncomforatble on that side, like if a dr pulled too hard when he was being born and it pulled a muscle or if he tweaked a neck muscle on the way out etc. For this I would suggest seeing a chiropractor who specializes in babies.

Because the other side is tender, I am concerned there is a latch issue. I suggest going and seeing a lactation consultant or finding someone who does breastfeeding counseling through WIC, or La Leach League, or a doula who knows how to fix a breastfeeding problem.

I hope that helps! It should not be hurting  so please get that checked asap.
