About Cynthia Morrison Expertise I would be happy to answer questions on breastfeeding relating to the following areas: History of breastfeeding, anatomy of the human breast, physiology of lactation, biochemistry of human milk, immunologic significance of human milk, nursing mom and suckling infant diet, drugs in breast milk, transmission of infectious diseases through breast milk, reproduction during lactation, and the collection and storage of human milk.
Experience I attempted to nurse my first child with little success. I succeeded in nursing my second child and realized the things that went wrong the first time around. Most importantly I learned that experience is always the best teacher.
Publications Although not in breastfeeding, I have been published in the Journal of Virology and the Journal of Virus Research (under Cynthia Montalto-Morrison)
Education/Credentials AAS in Medical Laboratory Technology. BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I am also an adjunct instructor in the nursing and medical laboratory technology departments at a local college.

My wife is breastfeeding following a c-section and the hospital she was at gave us this information:
2) Oxycodone
a) Thomson Lactation Rating: Infant risk has been demonstrated.
1) Evidence and/or expert consensus has demonstrated harmful infant effects when used during breastfeeding. An alternative to this drug should be prescribed or patients should be advised to discontinue breastfeeding.
b) Clinical Management
1) Because of the possibility of sedation and respiratory depression in the nursing infant, administration of oxycodone to the mother should be approached cautiously. Although oxycodone is excreted into breast milk in low concentrations, there have been rare reports of somnolence and lethargy in nursing infants whose mothers were treated with the drug (Prod Info Percodan(R), 2003). Withdrawal symptoms can occur in breast-feeding infants when maternal administration of an opioid analgesic is stopped (Prod Info OxyContin(R), 2001).
