Question
QUESTION: i have a daughter i gave her my breast milk till she was months old than i completely stopped feeding her know she is 1yr old but i still get sticky discharge from my breast only when i press it i want to now whether it is normal or i will have to tae some medicine to dry it orshould i show to some gynac pls help me

ANSWER: Hello Minal - some women do have their production last or remants of it for some time after ending breastfeeding.  at this point, I would see your doctor just to do an exam and advise on the next steps for you. It is difficult to advise without a actual check up..and as an aside, they typically do not give women medicine to dry up breast milk, but they will review what bra you are wearing and to perhaps instruct you for a week or so to wear a tigher bra to cease the production all together. Again, a in person review would be best just to give you detailed instructions.  All the best

QUESTION: thankyou, but their is one more question is it necessary for me to show this to a gynac or if i will wear tight bra it will stop on its own ,i really appreciate the way u answered my question my am little bit relaxed

Answer
Hello Minal, I would schedule a quick visit just to be sure...but in the meantime, it would be a good idea to wear a supportive bra around the clock for a week just to see if that restricted movement and friction would put a stop to your production.  But again, a doctor and a quick exam should be scheduled for complete recommendation.  take care and have a great day

Expertise

I am looking to support the segment of mothers that encounter engorgement issues that prevent them from continuing to breastfeeding, those that do not breastfeed or are ready to start weaning. As an aside, I wish to add that questions asked in terms of those not breastfeeding will not be given guilt for their choice. In many forums, including this one, there is currently no category developed for this "not breastfeeding" audience. I do believe that breastfeeding is best for both mother and child, however, I believe more strongly that there is a lack of support for the woman that for either personal or medical reasons cannot breastfeed. My strengths would be in answering questions related to stopping breast milk production comfortably either right after delivery or after nursing their children for some time, reducing breast engorgement pain and dealing with overactive lactation. Questions I would not try to answer are those tied to emotional feelings as I feel many times women that don't/can't breastfeed struggle with it...and that should be directed to the appropriate counseling channel.
