Breeding and Showing Cats/cat mating

Question
My Ragdoll went to stud last week and was succesfully mated, however i think she has come into call again today. She is not the most obvious cat on call - and we thought she was when we took her last week. Is it too early to get her scanned? Or should we travel another 8 hours to take her to the stud again?

Answer
Hi Zoe

It is unusual for a cat to call a week after being at stud.  I see that you say the mating was successful so in that case I would wait for the 21-28 days to see if you have the obvious signs of pregnancy such as enlarged and pink teats.

Sometimes cats can have a 'breakthrough' call even though they are pregnant though a week after mating is really a tad too soon and she could actually just be being vocal for some reason.

Expertise

I can give answers on cat breeding and showing having 'served' over 30 years in this particular field. I head up a Yahoo Group and also a cat club (NBA Cat Club) devoted to educating novices in the correct way to breed, and also show with both GCCF and TICA on a regular basis, and am well versed with the show world, having been involved in the management of the major GCCF Supreme Show in the UK for over 25 years. Genetics however is not my strong point.
