Breeding and Showing Cats/cat and rabbit breeding?

Question
Is it possible for a rabbit and cat to breed? I don't think so being that it is not possible to artificially inseminate a cat . But can a male cat successfully breed with a female rabbit? I say no but  there are some who say yes.

Answer
Hi Pollie

I had a rabbit many years ago who would go through the motions of trying to mate my female cat when she was in season but never actually managed it.  A male cat would not be able to mate a female rabbit as she does not adopt the correct pose to allow a cat access. However even if he had managed it any possible foetuses would not survive as the cat and the rabbit have different gestation periods. It is highly unlikely that any embryo would result as they are two different species totally.  Cross species fertilisation does not happen.

Expertise

I can give answers on cat breeding and showing having 'served' over 30 years in this particular field. I head up a Yahoo Group and also a cat club (NBA Cat Club) devoted to educating novices in the correct way to breed, and also show with both GCCF and TICA on a regular basis, and am well versed with the show world, having been involved in the management of the major GCCF Supreme Show in the UK for over 25 years. Genetics however is not my strong point.

Experience

30 years of continuous cat breeding and showing with two major organisations.
