Question
Have a blue point male on loan I payed for him to get my seal point hem.. preganant. both cats are register and have breeding pin for both. I watch her roll on her side each time hes is almost ready for the 30 sec deed. She is in full heat badly for the 3d time and she wont position her body right. I know she wants to but she seems confused and does'nt know what to do. This is the 3d time I have had the male try. One time I had her go to his house and same thing. They love each other and sleep together and eat and no fighting ever it's stange because the norm is that a female cat will not be like this with a male cat unless they live together. I feel bad to keep this up because she looks for him and is lonly when I give him back .. I Hoped she'd get preganant and settle in.  Please help me I have no clue what to do..call me if you are local and can phone me 1 781 319 0882.  marybeth

Answer
Hi Marybeth

I am in the UK so its not really possible to phone, but I will try to help this way.

I assume your girl has never had kittens before and that is the reason she doesn't know what to do.  I assume she is at the stage in her heat when she is treading with her back legs with her bottom in the air and her tail to one side?  That means she is fully in heat.  Some cats do get to this stage and then when the male goes to mount, they seem to flop over on their side.  I get the feeling this is what your girl is doing?  I think the only thing you can do is to help nature a little bit, by holding your girl in the right position for the boy to mount her and if I was you I wouldn't let go until he is just about to jump off.  At that stage, assuming he has successfully penetrated her I would advise that you get go quickly as sometimes the girl can get very aggressive and you don't really want to get in the way if she does.

If that doesn't work then you need to consider using a boy who is more masterful than the one you are using at the moment as these boys usually have the xperience to deal with difficult queens and can be more successful.

Marcia.

Expertise

I can give answers on cat breeding and showing having 'served' over 30 years in this particular field. I head up a Yahoo Group and also a cat club (NBA Cat Club) devoted to educating novices in the correct way to breed, and also show with both GCCF and TICA on a regular basis, and am well versed with the show world, having been involved in the management of the major GCCF Supreme Show in the UK for over 25 years. Genetics however is not my strong point.

Experience

30 years of continuous cat breeding and showing with two major organisations.
