Breeding and Showing Cats/un registered siamese male

Question
I have a beautiful Siamese mail, his mother was a lilac point and his father was a chocolate point.  They were in the home when I purchased him.  The problem is the parents were not registered and I am not sure if there is a way to get my Cinder Fella registered.  If not, if I purchase a female that is registered and breed them, can the kittens be registered?

Answer
Hi Karen

It is unlikely that any registry will register a cat with unregistered parents as a full Siamese, or even with one registered and one unregistered parent.  They will probably put them on what in the UK would be classed as the Reference register from which they would never progress.  It would mean that the kittens couldn't be shown or sold for breeding.

Your best bet would be to ask the breeder if they can get the parents registered and then register your boy.

Expertise

I can give answers on cat breeding and showing having 'served' over 30 years in this particular field. I head up a Yahoo Group and also a cat club (NBA Cat Club) devoted to educating novices in the correct way to breed, and also show with both GCCF and TICA on a regular basis, and am well versed with the show world, having been involved in the management of the major GCCF Supreme Show in the UK for over 25 years. Genetics however is not my strong point.

Experience

30 years of continuous cat breeding and showing with two major organisations.
