Question
hi i have a nine month old cat recently she has been showing  most signs of being pregnant and by my workings out should be due around 23rd feb. i am currently worried about the i cant feel or see the kittens moving about inside her  how soon should i be able to see this or feel it ? thank you for your help x x x

Answer
Dear Kathryn

I am sure you are getting excited at the imminent kittens. The kittens should be seen moving any day now as it is usually around 2 weeks before they are due.  Of course you need to remember that as it is her first litter her muscles are very tight and you may have to be very observant at first.  I tend to spend hours with my hands on their abdomen waiting to feel that litter flutter.

I'm sure it won't be long before you feel them.  I assume she is nicely rounded?  If she is only have one then you may not even see any movement as the kitten could be tucked up high out of the way.

Expertise

I can give answers on cat breeding and showing having 'served' over 30 years in this particular field. I head up a Yahoo Group and also a cat club (NBA Cat Club) devoted to educating novices in the correct way to breed, and also show with both GCCF and TICA on a regular basis, and am well versed with the show world, having been involved in the management of the major GCCF Supreme Show in the UK for over 25 years. Genetics however is not my strong point.
