Breeding and Showing Cats/Cat in labor

Question
My Ragdoll queen had 1 Kitten at 11:30 AM on Saturday, and 1 at 11:30 PM on Saturday. I can feel more kittens moving inside her but she still hasn't had any more. She has gotten up and ate, had some water and used the litter box. Is it OK for her to go 12 hours between kittens? Is it normal?

Answer
It is not unusual for this to happen but I would have her checked out by the vet now as once the birth canal is open there is always the potential for infection to gain access.  If she has more kittens in there you also don't want to find that she has now suffered uterine inertia (the inability to push) and may need veterinary help.

Expertise

I can give answers on cat breeding and showing having 'served' over 30 years in this particular field. I head up a Yahoo Group and also a cat club (NBA Cat Club) devoted to educating novices in the correct way to breed, and also show with both GCCF and TICA on a regular basis, and am well versed with the show world, having been involved in the management of the major GCCF Supreme Show in the UK for over 25 years. Genetics however is not my strong point.

Experience

30 years of continuous cat breeding and showing with two major organisations.
