Breeding and Showing Cats/Breeding

Question
I was planning on purchasing breeding rights to a male bengal that I purchased this month, but emergencies came up and now I don't have the money.  He is already registered to me, but the papers are marked not for breeding.  My registered bengal female that I have breeding rights to went into silent heat and they mated without my knowledge of her being in heat.  What should I do?  They will be gorgeous pedigreed bengal kittens, but I fear that I won't be able to register them.

Answer
Dear Sarah

If I read you right, you were hoping to pay the extra to your boy's breeder so that she could change his status with the registering body so that you could register his kittens.

You have two options - one is to sell the kittens with no registration paper though of course they will be pedigree and you can give a pedigree with them, or you could approach your boy's breeder to see if she would be willing to make an agreement with you that she changes his status so that you can register the kittens in exchange for the money you would have given her, which you will be able to raise from the sale of the kittens.

Most breeders understand that accidents happen so there may be a way forward by approaching her.

Marcia.

Expertise

I can give answers on cat breeding and showing having 'served' over 30 years in this particular field. I head up a Yahoo Group and also a cat club (NBA Cat Club) devoted to educating novices in the correct way to breed, and also show with both GCCF and TICA on a regular basis, and am well versed with the show world, having been involved in the management of the major GCCF Supreme Show in the UK for over 25 years. Genetics however is not my strong point.

Experience

30 years of continuous cat breeding and showing with two major organisations.
