QUESTION: Ma'am,
I have never had cats as a child or an adult up until recently when a man brought a cat to my house asking me to please take her because he found her and he was living in his vehicle. It was a Saturday, so he couldn't take her to a shelter. I have come to believe that this was fate bringing me this cat because I have absolutely fallen in love with her and want to know all about her. I have reason to believe she is a Silver Siberian based on comparing her pictures to ones on the internet. I would like to know, by looking at her, do you suppose she is a Silver Siberian? Also, I read that the Siberian is slightly rare in the U.S. because they hadn't started to become imported until 1990. Is this true, are they rare? If you do think she is siberian, do you think she is pure siberian or a mix? Thank you very much.

(I attached a picture)...her name is Starlit Priscilla

ANSWER: Dear Sara

It is lovely to hear how you have fallen for this lovely cat and I'm sure she is very pleased to be with you too.

It is not easy to tell what she is from the photo or to speculate what breed she may have in her background.  She is roundish like a Siberian but this is also common with a cross Persian.  CFA (Cat Fanciers Association) seem to state that the Siberian is rare but here in the UK there are quite a few now.

Just enjoy your cat and I am sure she will give you quite a few years of love back.

Regards

Marcia

QUESTION: Marcia,
Thank you for getting back with me. I don't need a scientific answer, but for someone well acquainted in cat breeds, I was hoping for a best first guess from you. I will send another picture. If you would just humor me, what kind of cat would you say that she is?

Answer
Hi Sara

Well from the front view I would have said there could be a hint of Norwegian Forest cat in there.  She doesn't look right for a Siberian. Siberians are a lot rounder in the face than Starlit looks.  She may even have both breeds in her.
