Breeding and Showing Cats/red ring around both irises

Question
I was at a friends house and they had a large white long-haired male cat who has gold/yellow eyes. I notice both eyes had a thin red ring around the irises or the very outer edge of the eyes. My friend hadn't really noticed it. Have you ever seen that and is that common among certain kinds or breed of cats? Just curious, thanks.

Answer
Hi Lee

If it had been a blue eyed cat I would have said that it was the way the light was catching it.  However without actually seeing it, it would be difficult to say what it is.  I imagine it would be very difficult to take a picture of as any flash would bleach it out.  If you are able to get a picture in full daylight without a flash, that showed the pink then I could have another go.

Expertise

I can give answers on cat breeding and showing having 'served' over 30 years in this particular field. I head up a Yahoo Group and also a cat club (NBA Cat Club) devoted to educating novices in the correct way to breed, and also show with both GCCF and TICA on a regular basis, and am well versed with the show world, having been involved in the management of the major GCCF Supreme Show in the UK for over 25 years. Genetics however is not my strong point.
