Question

Sable kitten, champagn
Hey there, I recently acquired a kitten from a Burmese cat breeder. I currently own another Burmese cat, and I noticed the two seemed a bit different looking to my eyes. I'm not a shower, and I primarily look for Burmese cats because of their intelligence, temperament, and hypo-allergenic coats.

The kitten is 3 months old and sable. The older cat is 3 years old and champagne. The kitten's code does not feel as satin-y, and it looks like it has a longer profile.  Could you provide some insight?

Answer
Hi Bryan

You don't say what country you are from so cannot advise you very well though I guess the USA.  They both look like Burmese but are of different quality.  The champagne one looks more show quality.  The sable one still has to grow and mature and may well turn out to look very similar once it is adult.  You can't really compare colours and different ages against each other as kittens change very much before they are adult.

Expertise

I can give answers on cat breeding and showing having 'served' over 30 years in this particular field. I head up a Yahoo Group and also a cat club (NBA Cat Club) devoted to educating novices in the correct way to breed, and also show with both GCCF and TICA on a regular basis, and am well versed with the show world, having been involved in the management of the major GCCF Supreme Show in the UK for over 25 years. Genetics however is not my strong point.
