Question
hi my cat is 8 weeks pregnant and for the last 4 days shes been losing a pale pinkish gooey discharge from down below. shes been nesting all week and seems fine within herself but im now getting concerned as shes loosing this discharge still and its been 4 days. its not smelly and its quite thick and pinkish sometimes yet othertimes its a milky colour. she cleans herself up straight away but ive been looking on the internet and im not quite sure wat to make of it,any information would be greatfull.shes 3 years old and its her 2nd litter i believe as i bought her a year ago.

Answer
Hi Stacey

I would keep an eye on her and possibly get your vet to check her over.  Some cats will discharge occasionally for up to a week/10 days before but normally they wouldn't.  There is a possibility that she may have lost a kitten and this is the body's way of making sure the other kittens don't suffer, by allowing any 'mess' to drain away.  If that is the case then I would like to suggest that your vet puts her on a course of Synulox/Clavaseptin/Noroclav - whatever it is your vet stocks in case there is any infection present and/or to avoid any, as her uterus is now open.  If he does prescribe it then you need to keep her on it until she has the kittens.

If the kittens are still moving there is probably not too much to worry about but its better to err on the cautious side.

I hope all goes well when she has them.

Expertise

I can give answers on cat breeding and showing having 'served' over 30 years in this particular field. I head up a Yahoo Group and also a cat club (NBA Cat Club) devoted to educating novices in the correct way to breed, and also show with both GCCF and TICA on a regular basis, and am well versed with the show world, having been involved in the management of the major GCCF Supreme Show in the UK for over 25 years. Genetics however is not my strong point.

Experience

30 years of continuous cat breeding and showing with two major organisations.
