Question
I HAVE TWO HIMALAYANS,MY GIRL IS 11 MONTHS OLD AND MY MALE IS 12 MONTHS OLD.I HAVE WORRIES ABOUT MY MALE .MY FEMALE HAS BEEN IN HEAT THREE TIME.BUT MY MALE HAS NO INTEREST IN HER AT ALL.HE JUST LAYS AROUND LIKE HE IS TEN YEARS OLD, HE IS VERY VERY LAZY.I HAVE A PIXIEBOB THAT IS FIVE MONTHS OLD AND HE IS ALREADY TRYING TO MATE WITH HER.

Answer
Hi Janette

Every cat matures at a different speed and even within a breed they can all be different.  Himalayans are well known for not maturing as early as as a Pixiebob.  My suggestion would be to take your girl away from your boy as absence really does make the heart grow stronger in this case.  When a boy is living with a girl he doesn't always see her in the same light as a girl that is 'visiting'.

Give him time and he will get there.  I have known boys not to start working until they are well past 2 years old.

Expertise

I can give answers on cat breeding and showing having 'served' over 30 years in this particular field. I head up a Yahoo Group and also a cat club (NBA Cat Club) devoted to educating novices in the correct way to breed, and also show with both GCCF and TICA on a regular basis, and am well versed with the show world, having been involved in the management of the major GCCF Supreme Show in the UK for over 25 years. Genetics however is not my strong point.

Experience

30 years of continuous cat breeding and showing with two major organisations.
