Question
i have a little girl Persian and a little male Bengal.  both not fixed and have caught him mounting her.  if they mate will that cause problems because it is a hybrid cat with a Persian???

Answer
Dear Markie

In terms of problems re having the kittens, no there should be no problems as the Bengal head in structure is not as broad so passing the kittens will not be a problem.

The resulting kittens though will not be eligible for registration in any organisation so you will in effect have non pedigree (moggie) kittens.

I assume that the Persian is in season?  If so I would suggest that the two of them are separated as unless you have seen a proper mating, then it may not be too late to stop a pregnancy.

It sounds like the time has come for you to neuter your Bengal as with maturity he will begin to spray around the house and this will save the risk of cross breed kittens and you can then look forward to taking your girl to a proper Persian stud and have a lovely litter of kittens.

Expertise

I can give answers on cat breeding and showing having 'served' over 30 years in this particular field. I head up a Yahoo Group and also a cat club (NBA Cat Club) devoted to educating novices in the correct way to breed, and also show with both GCCF and TICA on a regular basis, and am well versed with the show world, having been involved in the management of the major GCCF Supreme Show in the UK for over 25 years. Genetics however is not my strong point.

Experience

30 years of continuous cat breeding and showing with two major organisations.
