Breeding and Showing Cats/ragdolls

Question
I have a 11 month old male ragdoll cat. The female has been on heat 3 times and all times he mounts her and bites her on the neck but it seems like he is not coming back far enough behind her. He is longer than her. Will he eventually get it right? Normally how long before he will get it right?

Answer
Hi Julie

Well 11 months old is still quite young so there is still plenty of time for him to get it right.  Is the girl bringing her back up high enough for him and is she deflecting her tail enough.  If your girl is a novice herself then I would suggest you try him with an experienced queen.

Expertise

I can give answers on cat breeding and showing having 'served' over 30 years in this particular field. I head up a Yahoo Group and also a cat club (NBA Cat Club) devoted to educating novices in the correct way to breed, and also show with both GCCF and TICA on a regular basis, and am well versed with the show world, having been involved in the management of the major GCCF Supreme Show in the UK for over 25 years. Genetics however is not my strong point.

Experience

30 years of continuous cat breeding and showing with two major organisations.
