Bridge & other card games/1C OPENER

Question
RECENTLY OPP OPENED 1C. OPPs PARTNER ALERTED SAYING OPENER'S CLUB LENGTH COULD BE ZERO! AND THAT OPENER IS SAYING SHE HAS NO 4-CARD
MAJOR.  I PRESUME THAT 1D SAYS THAT SHE HAS A 4-CARD MAJOR.
(WE ALL PLAY 5-CARD MAJORs)
EVER HEAR OF THIS?  AND I'M TALKING ABOUT THE MONTREAL RELAY.

Answer
Hi,

I have heard of the Montreal Relay but in that system a 1C opener denies holding a 5 card major but could very well have four cards in either or both majors. After all, if opener has no four card major as well as zero clubs he would need to have at least seven diamonds. The Montreal Relay is described below.

I can answer questions on bidding and on cardplay with the caveat that the former may necessarily involve some subjectivity. I have been playing tournament bridge for over 20 years and I have won several regional tournaments.
