Bridge & other card games/Renege tricks make game?

Question
The bid is 3 diamonds, opponents reneged resulting in a 2 trick penalty.  Bidder made his 3 diamonds, but with the 2 trick penalty, it gives them 5 tricks.  Can they declare that as a game?

Answer
Hi,

The answer to your question is no, they cannot receive credit for a game.

If a revoke occurs, that does not alter the original bid contract arrived at during the auction. The contract remains 3D, the revoke penalty simply gives them 2 overtricks.

I can answer questions on bidding and on cardplay with the caveat that the former may necessarily involve some subjectivity. I have been playing tournament bridge for over 20 years and I have won several regional tournaments.
