Bridge & other card games/Bridge scoring

Question
If you double a bid and they have a part score and they make their bid, does this double them into game? Or does the doubel score go above the line?

Answer
Hi,

The doubled contract score goes below the line and can easily result in game.

For example, a 2S contract making undoubled is 60 below the line. If it is doubled and makes it is now 120 below the line...which in itself is enough for game. A 1NT contract undoubled is 40 below the line. If it is doubled it becomes 80 below the line which, in itself, is not enough for game. If there is a previous part score, though, the total would be sufficient.

Doubled overtricks, however, go above the line.

I can answer questions on bidding and on cardplay with the caveat that the former may necessarily involve some subjectivity. I have been playing tournament bridge for over 20 years and I have won several regional tournaments.
