Bridge & other card games/Gerber

Question
Consider this sequence of bidding:

    Pass, 1D, pass, 2H
    Pass, 2NT, pass, 4C

 Partner opened 1 D, I had 18 points, and bid 2H
 Q. Is my 4C considered Gerber asking for aces?
 That was my intention.

Answer
Hi,

The standard treatment is that a jump to 4C over a natural NT bid is considered to be Gerber.
Since the last bid by partner was 2NT which appears to be natural, your jump to 4C is indeed Gerber. Of course, this assumes that both you and your partner agree to use this standard treatment rather than a different partnership agreement.

I can answer questions on bidding and on cardplay with the caveat that the former may necessarily involve some subjectivity. I have been playing tournament bridge for over 20 years and I have won several regional tournaments.
