Bridge & other card games/bridge rotation for 8 pairs

Question
Because 2 couples dropped out of our 20 people/10 couples Bridge Tourney, I need a rotation chart for 2 sets of 24 hands each, per day. We will stretch this out over the school year and have a luncheon on the 7th day and final day of play.
My head is swimming now because I have spent over 2 hours trying to get the pairs into a proper order. HELP !
Thank you.

Answer
Hi,

I assume that you have 8 pairs. The rotation below is for 8 pairs, each one playing every other pair exactly once. The complete rotation lasts 7 sessions.

Session       Pair Matchups

 1        8-1  7-2  6-3  5-4
 2        8-2  1-3  7-4  6-5
 3        8-3  2-4  1-5  7-6
 4        8-4  3-5  2-6  1-7
 5        8-5  4-6  3-7  2-1
 6        8-6  5-7  4-1  3-2
 7        8-7  6-1  5-2  4-3

You could also do a complete movement each day with the "sessions" being rounds of 3 or 4 hands each and the columns being Tables 1-4. Since a complete movement takes 7 rounds, the total number of boards would have to be a multiple of 7...either 21 or 28.

I can answer questions on bidding and on cardplay with the caveat that the former may necessarily involve some subjectivity. I have been playing tournament bridge for over 20 years and I have won several regional tournaments.
