Question
Our marathon has only 11 pairs this year.  Obviously a bye is indicated.  How does one set up a rotation for this?

Answer
Hi,

The easiest way to deal with this is to entice another team to play.

However, below is a rotation for 11 pairs over 11 sessions with each pair playing every other pair and also sitting out once.

Session          Pair Matchups       Sit Out Pair Number

 1      11-2   10-3   9-4   8-5   7-6   Pair #1 = Sit Out
 2      1-3    11-4  10-5   9-6   8-7   Pair #2
 3      2-4    1-5   11-6  10-7   9-8   Pair #3
 4      3-5    2-6    1-7  11-8  10-9   Pair #4
 5      4-6    3-7    2-8   1-9  11-10  Pair #5
 6      5-7    4-8    3-9  2-10  1-11   Pair #6
 7      6-8    5-9   4-10  3-11   2-1   Pair #7
 8      7-9   6-10   5-11   4-1   3-2   Pair #8
 9     8-10   7-11    6-1   5-2   4-3   Pair #9
10     9-11    8-1    7-2   6-3   5-4   Pair #10
11     10-1    9-2    8-3   7-4   6-5   Pair #11

I can answer questions on bidding and on cardplay with the caveat that the former may necessarily involve some subjectivity. I have been playing tournament bridge for over 20 years and I have won several regional tournaments.
