Question
We will be leaving on a cruise in July 2010. We would like to arrive a day ahead and spend the day in London and the night in a hotel in Dover. We would be returning to London about 13 days later. I thought the train would be the best bet but can't seem to find much info.Is it a 3 hr ride to Dover? Where would we get off the train?

Answer
To get a timetable, Google "National Rail Enquiries".  To get to Dover, you leave London from Charing Cross Station or Victoria Station.  Both have trains bound for Dover.  You get off at Dover Priory.  The station will be clearly marked and a conductor will call out the station.  It takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

From Dover of course, take the train from Dover Priory.  The trip will end and Charing Cross or Victoria station.

I have been traveling almost annually in England or Scotland as a tourist for the last 25 years, so I know quite a bit about train travel, car rental, B&Bs, tourist discounts, standard tourist sites, good places to eat, pubs, prices, and things to do off
