Question
Dear Graham,

I wonder if you can help me....can you tell me if my opinion that the north of england is relatively poorer than the rest of england is correct?....and if so why is it so?

sincerely yours

Answer
Hi Paul

I think what you state is roughly correct and has always been the case. Lately is it is largely to do with the decline in the manufacturing industries which were largely in the North and a corresponding lowering or property values and wages.

This is not always the case though - there are more millionaires in Cheshire than in London I believe...

I have been living in London for the last 20 years so can answer general enquiries relating to the city. I also live near the British Museum so I can answer questions on accomodation in that area. I have also travelled extensively in the US so I can offer advice to Americans coming to London on a cross cultural basis.
